Day 3: GENEROUS through Building
MERGE Student Ministry
For 10 years, middle and high school students from across Georgia have come together in Toccoa to build and improve
properties and people. This annual event called MERGE is a beautiful combination of city officials working together with Georgia Baptist churches to impact lives.
The community projects include renovations, Bible clubs, day camps, ministry to health care facilities, construction, benevolence, and whatever it takes to better the lives of the needy and hurting.
Last year, over 8,400 man-hours were given as a service to the city of Toccoa and its residents through MERGE. Over $21K was donated for project materials, combined with the inestimable value of the labor of love provided by Georgia Baptists.
In 2016 the Georgia Baptist Student Groups and Faith Development department, along with the Georgia Baptist Conference Center in Toccoa, supplied the opportunity and facilities for lodging and meals for 254 students and 58 adults who gave their
time and efforts as a service for Christ.
City Commissioner Gail Fry states,“MERGE is a week of true community spirit, where we know we have made a big difference in the lives of many individuals.” Her smile broadens when asked about the impact it has made in the past and plans to make into the future. “We want to make life better for our citizens, and it happens as love comes out to meet genuine need,” says Mrs. Fry, the former Toccoa mayor, recently honored as the “2016 Keep America Beautiful Elected Official of the Year.”
As you give through the Mission Georgia Offering, your support reaches hundreds of families who need Christ and His love extended through our next generation of Godly leaders. Consider this as you pray and give this year.
• Ask God to connect the right students with the right projects for 2017.
• Lift up the City of Toccoa officials as they embrace MERGE and accept this ministry.
